Dry Needling to Help With Muscle Spasm and Promote Healing
Dry Needling involves inserting a tiny monofilament needle in a muscle or muscles in order to release shortened bands of muscles and decrease trigger point activity. This can help resolve painful muscle spasm and promote healing. This is not to be confused with traditional Chinese Acupuncture. It is a medical treatment that relies on a medical diagnosis to be effective. Your physical therapist is trained has met specific educational requirements for competency in Dry Needling. There is an increasing body of evidence that has demonstrated that Dry Needling can be a valuable and effective component of treatment for musculoskeletal pain. As with any medical treatment or procedure, there can be complications or adverse effects and your Physical Therapist will explain these to obtain your informed consent prior to the application of the Dry Needling procedures.
