Custom Foot Orthotics for Effective Support and Relief of Pain
Atlantic Physical Therapy is widely known for its specialized services in biomechanical assessment and the fabrication and fitting of foot orthotics. Biomechanical assessment is an examination of the structure and mobility of the foot and ankle to identify factors that can contribute to pain in your feet, legs, and lower back. It involves a careful discussion of your problem, a thorough examination, and an observation of your walking pattern (gait analysis). For our running athletes, this assessment may also include a high speed running gait analysis. From this information we can guide our patients toward proper footwear and, if needed, fitting of custom foot orthotics.
Custom foot orthotics are special insoles that fit inside your shoes. Each pair of foot orthotics is made and molded to exactly match the unique curves of your foot and correct the way your foot moves.Our custom foot orthotics meet a variety of lifestyles and footwear choices to make you feel better when you are on your feet.

If you are scheduled to see us for a biomechanical assessment and possible foot orthotics, please bring a pair of comfortable shorts for the examination. You should also bring a bag with shoes that are typical of what you wear on a daily basis. If you are a runner, please bring running shoes that you have worn for at least a few months.
Once your evaluation has been completed and the information analyzed, we may recommend custom orthotics for you. The fitting and fabrication of these is scheduled for a subsequent office visit on another day, typically a Tuesday or Thursday. While every insurance company has its own policies, most cover your evaluation (biomechanical assessment) and some also pay for the orthotic fitting. You will pay for the supply cost of your orthotics at the time they are made with a general range of $75-125 per pair.
